Noopur Dance Academy
Noopur Dance Academy - School of Bharatanatyam and Folk Dance was founded in 1992 by Swati Shah,a talented Bharatanatyam dancer from India , dedicated to promote traditional dances in USA . Located in Plano, Noopur Dance Academy has trained many students in Bharatanatyam and Folk Dance. Students from age 5 years and above are exposed to this beautiful dance form from India. Private classes (upto 2 students) and Group Classes are being offered.
In the last ten years they have performed various dances throughout the metroplex at events such as, Dallas International Festival, India Nite, Dance for Planet, Asia Festival, Discover India , Kimbel Art Museum . Noopur Dance Academy also host the Annual Dance Showcase. This helps the students gain confidence, understand group dynamics, and stage aesthetics. Guru Swati Shah is an accomplished Indian Classical Dancer, who started learning Bharatanatyam at age 12, under the able guidance of Mrs. Shalini Tahamnker for three years. She continued her practice under the guidance of Mrs. Arthi Baxi and finally became a disciple of Mrs. Mamta Desai. She performed her Arangetram on July 7,1991. She received her Masters in chemistry, from South Gujarat University, Gujarat, India. After coming to the U.S.A she studied Graphic Designing with Multimedia.
Her main interests are Dancing, Drama (Theater), Music and Painting. She received Gujarat State Natya Academy Award for best female performer in 1989. She is also trained in Indian Folk Dances. Some of her best productions were the dance dramas "Chandanbala" and "Ilachikumar" which have a solid base in Jain religion. She and her students have worked together in producing these dance dramas. In May 1995 they performed "Ilachikumar" in Kimbel Art Museum, Fort worth, for the opening ceremony of "Jaina " Exhibitions.
